The Communications Gap in European Wealth and Private Markets

How the leading UK and European wealth managers are positioned in private markets.

This report analyses 30 leading UK and European wealth managers and private banks, selected for scale, relevance and their advisory-led business models.

Private markets strategies have moved from the periphery to the heart of client portfolios across the UK and European wealth industry. Nearly three quarters of the Wealth 30 now show public evidence of engagement. However, far fewer can point to a proposition a client could find, read and understand.

The Challenge

Explainer content sits in one corner of the website, propositions in another, and clients are left to join them up. Swiss private banks have built proper private markets destinations and supported them with house views, outlooks and heritage. UK firms more often tuck private markets into a portfolio document and rely on advisers to fill in the gaps.

Clients now arrive at the first meeting with a view already formed online. As generative AI starts answering "who's good at private markets " before a relationship manager can, heritage that can't be found online counts for less than it used to.

The Wealth 30 study, drawing on Peregrine's 2025 Private Markets report with Boston Consulting Group, identifies four archetypes shaping how firms show up in this market - and the five disciplines practiced by the leaders.

Five disciplines that separate the leaders

clarity-icon

Treat clarity as a competitive advantage. It's the most underexploited one in the sector.

liquidty-icon

Talk about liquidity, valuation and behaviour, not just product.

alternatives-icon
Fold private markets into the corporate story rather than running them as a side initiative.
channel-icon
Invest in owned channels. The client journey now begins online, even in advice-led models.
scrutiny-icon
Get ahead of scrutiny on fees, suitability and transparency as visibility rises.
